 “What is a Casa”?

Casa is the spanish word for house or home.  A"casa particular" is like a bed and breakfast (room and board) in a private home in Cuba. Private citizens are allowed (meeting certain conditions and paying the required tax) to rent out rooms to tourists. Each casa is permitted to rent 2 rooms only.

They can offer lodging and meals. Usually meals at the casa are the best meals around.  The "casa particular" offers an economical way to experience Cuba while allowing visitors to meet and make contact with the Cuban people in their own environment.  The accommodations are governement inspected, clean, comfortable and usually with private bathroom. Casa are available throughout Cuba   links to other casas

In many casas you will not find all of the luxuries that come with the resort life but the warmth and hospitality of the Cuban people will make for an unforgettable visit. Casa owners make you feel at home and provide a very safe and secure environment.

Cubans are proud and well educated people.  Cuba boasts 100% literacy.  Many Cubans speak more than one language. They are proud of their country and seem genuinely pleased to have you visit and enjoy what they and their country have to offer.

The best way  to contact a casa is by phone as very few people have internet access.  It is quite inexpensive to call Cuba.  Use your Spanish phrase book and prepare to speak a little Espanol.
